Whipped cream is one of those components that anyone can whip up and serve with their favourite drinks and desserts, like chocolate or cheesecake. It adds a texture, flavour, and airiness that makes the perfect accompaniment to fresh fruit salad for those days when you just want to add a touch of sweetness to an otherwise healthy dessert.
But, as much as Taste Revolution loves plain whipped cream, sometimes it can be a simplistic flavour, where it can be underwhelming. However, the thing we love about whipped cream is that it can be flavoured so easily, transforming it into a flavour component in its own right.
There are so many flavours that can be added to whipped cream and in this guide, we’ll talk you through how to make basic whipped cream and how to add flavour to it, by using our top 10 recommendations. Enjoy!
How to Make Basic Whipped Cream Using a Cream Charger
To make basic whipped cream without any flavouring, the main ingredients you need are:
- Whipping Cream - Ensure that you buy whipping cream and not double or heavy cream, as whipping cream will whip much better. Before using your whipping cream refrigerate it, the colder, the better.
- Sugar - To give the cream a bit of sweetness, you can use granulated or powdered sugar.Â
Once you have your ingredients ready, it’s time to start whipping!
Taste Revolution recommends making whipped cream using a cream whipper and cream chargers to get the best quality.
- Firstly, add your ingredients to the dispenser and ensure the mixture doesn’t cross the max fill line as some space needs to be left, so the cream charger gas can be shaken together.Â
- Next, secure the head tightly and put the cream charger into the holder and screw it on the head of the dispenser. The smaller end should be facing upwards while doing this. Then, twist gently until the gas from the cream charger is released.Â
- Here’s the fun part! Shake, shake, shake! Turn the cream whipper upside down and shake to mix the gas with the cream as this helps the nitrous oxide inside the cream charger to mix with the cream properly. The more you shake, the thicker the cream will become, but we would advise shaking around 15 times and checking the consistency after these shakes to start with, and then increasing the amount of shakes by around 5 after each set of shakes until you achieve a consistency and thickness to your liking as over-shaking can result in a poor yield!
And, voilà ! You will now have luxurious whipped cream. BUT, with not a lot of flavour. So, let’s add some!
How to Add Flavour to Whipped Cream
It’s actually really simple to add flavour to whipped cream, but something that people don’t think about doing. Not only is it simple, but it’s also fun to do as you can play around with the different flavours and get experimental with it.
Plus, your fruit, pancakes, puddings, and pies will have a burst of flavour - what more could you want?
10 Flavours to Add to Whipped Cream
1. Cocoa Whipped CreamÂ
Everyone looks chocolate, right? Why not add cocoa into your whipped cream to give it a delicious flavour.
Use 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and 4 teaspoons of sugar for 130g of whipping cream. If you want an intense chocolate flavour, add more cocoa powder to your taste.
Mix the ingredients together and before pouring into your cream whipper, we recommend refrigerating it for a couple of hours for maximum texture and flavour.
2. Coffee Whipped Cream
If you’re a fan of coffee-flavoured food, adding a touch of espresso powder to your whipped cream could change your whole perspective on desserts.
We recommend adding 2 teaspoons of espresso powder or 3 teaspoons of instant coffee, with a tablespoon of sugar into 130g of whipping cream. Again, adjust the recipe to your liking.
3. Caramel Nut Whipped CreamÂ
This flavour is a firm favourite. The contrast of the smooth whipped cream, the silky caramel and the sweet and nutty flavour is delicious.
We recommend adding 260g of whipping cream with 2 teaspoons of caramel sauce, 50ml of Monin Hazelnut Syrup and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.
4. Orange Blossom Whipped CreamÂ
Orange-flavoured whipped cream would be a great pairing for a chocolatey dessert - the perfect chocolate orange combination!
Simply add 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of finely grated orange zest, 4 teaspoons of orange flower water or Simply Orange Syrup with 130g of whipping cream. Whip it using your cream whipper and adjust the flavour and sweetness to your liking.
5. Lemon Whipped CreamÂ
Lemon-flavoured whipped cream would work perfectly with a cheesecake or fresh gingerbread.
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 3 tablespoons of 1883 Lemon Syrup to 130g of whipping cream and place in the cream whipper.
6. Peanut Butter Whipped CreamÂ
You’ll either love or hate this one. If you’re a fan of peanut butter, you’ll love this whipped cream flavour. It’s perfect to have with a chocolate cake or chocolate cheesecake.
Simply add smooth peanut butter or this Jordan's Peanut Butter Cup Syrup and whipping cream to your dispenser.
7. Cinnamon Maple Whipped CreamÂ
This is a great whipped cream flavour to have with your pancakes in the morning, afternoon, or evening!
You’ll need some maple syrup, powdered sugar and cinnamon or Monin Cinnamon Syrup to add to your whipping cream. Don’t overdo the cinnamon, unless you’d like a really intense flavour. It’s all about preference.
8. Butterscotch Whipped CreamÂ
Experience a hint of nostalgia with this classic butterscotch flavoured cream.
You’ll need 260g of whipping cream, 70g of brown sugar and 2 teaspoons of Simply Butterscotch Syrup. Pop everything in your whipper and adjust the sweetness to your taste.
9. Chai Whipped CreamÂ
Are you a fan of Chai tea? If so, you’ll love this flavour of whipped cream.
This one requires slightly more ingredients than the other flavours, but it’s worth it for the taste. You’ll need whipping cream, cinnamon or Monin Cinnamon Syrup, cardamom, ginger, and sugar.
We recommend using this Chai whipped cream right away, or refrigerate for a couple of hours before serving.
10. Alcohol-Infused Whipped CreamÂ
Our final flavour is for those over 18. The key with this one is not to go over the top with the alcohol. A little goes a long way.
You can choose any type of alcohol that you like, and it will add just a hint of flavour to compliment your dessert. Cheers!
Or if you would prefer an alcohol-free or low-alcohol cream which still has that delicious alcohol flavour, why not substitute the alcohol for one of our Monin Amaretto, Sangria, or Blue Curacao syrups
